Activity: El Jem Colosseum

One of the most accomplished examples of Roman architecture of an Amphitheatre, almost equal to that of the Coliseum of Rome can be found in North Africa. El Jem Colosseum is a roman amphitheater built in a small village in East of Tunisia. It is one of the largest and best-preserved Roman monuments ever built in the world, unique in Africa. This amazing place is an outstanding witness to the Roman architecture.

Built for spectator events, the amphitheater is Roman’s greatest architectural legacy in North Africa and the Middle East. El Jem Colosseum is a 3rd century monument illustrating to this day the grandeur and extent of the Roman Empire. It was designed to seat a whopping crowd of nearly 40,000 people – considerably more than the population of the town itself.
